We won’t lie- James and I were nervous about what it would be like hosting our first guests. And we couldn’t have asked for lovelier guests. So far we’ve had guests from England, Germany and Italians, those who live here and those who live abroad but are returning to visit friends and family and attend weddings (the countryside here is beautiful for weddings).
The past 2 weeks, we’ve had an amazing family from Munich, staying with us- they’ve helped us try out our pizza oven for the first time, made and eaten delicious pizza and tiramisu with us, encouraged us, given us the most wonderful compliments, helped carry in pool lounger cushions late at night, drank wine and laughed with us. Their gorgeous daughters have played and swum together with Brody. They’ve braved the steep walk down to Spiaggia San Michele (and up again, with their 2-year old riding her Dad’s shoulders), found gentler beaches for young children in Grottammare and San Benedetto del Tronto, had pizza in our local park where they could relax and watch their children play and eaten the best gelato in town, at Zanzibar.

We’ve learnt a few German words!
- Tuch – cloth (you might need one after you hear the Italian word “oplà!” – which means “whoops-a-daisy!”)
- bitte schön – you’re welcome
- Auf Wiedersehen – goodbye
It’s going to be hard to say auf wiedersehen! We hope that they’ll return soon, and that we’ll have more lovely guests who come to share this piece of paradise with us.
